NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 12. Bulk reel: 60 Weather: Fair. a) Bird whistled in, but had been around almost all night. Quality: 1-2. Level: +5. b) After playback of a). Quality: 1. Level: +5. Immediately after the playback the bird sang partially with a voice much higher, seemed almost an octave higher. I tried to induce this again but couldn't, obtained only a little bit at a slightly higher pitch. (These phrases are of longer duration than those of a).) Note, however, that at a later place the owl is slightly out of "focus" and then is brought in "focus" and in doing so tghe tone seems higher. This may indicate that the normal song has much high frequency in it, which is emphasized by the parabola. Sound stimulation was (other): playback. Response to playback: Approach.
