NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 52. Bulk reel: 32 203 tape. ~7:45 AM. Weather: Fair. Natural one-figure succession; bird rather far away (~125 m.). Quality: 2-3. Level: +5. 3.75 ips. Reaction to my playing the "field tape" (= M. r. zonothorax). The vocal reaction is active but bird didn't come close. (I was apparently out of its territory.) Quality: 2-3 & 2. Level: +5. 3.75 ips. Then after I moved much closer and after more playback. The bird reacted very actively, coming quite close. Qualitiy: 1. Level: 0. 7.5 ips. Voice description of bird: gray and with gray throat; fully barred; app. white lower belly; yellow orange facial skin; brown iris. 7.5 ips. 5:20 PM. Weather: Clear, just getting light. Then reaction to more playback. Quality: 1. Level: 0. 7.5 ips. Added here is some very poor recording of natural "dawn song" recorded at dawn in the same ~ place (but bird quite distant) and M. gilvicollis was also heard there. (Some heard very faintly at end this recording.) Quality: 3. Level: +5. 3.75 ips. Note: No recording from this point on was used in graphic analysis for the Micrastur paper (they had not yet been filed), but those with dates up to December 1971 no doubt entered into my general impression. Response to playback: Approach.
