Observation details
Lone bird feeding in on the grassy south edge of Clam Lagoon. This bird seemed larger-bodied and longer and thinner-necked than other Tundras I've seen. The bill was long with no obvious grin patch, although the head was round and seemed typical for a Tundra--not flat with a continuous slope with the bill. The head was only slightly darker brown than the neck and darkest in the front of the head, whereas the nape appeared as pale as the neck. While we were observing the bird it flew and circled overhead for several minutes before landing back in the same area. Dan Bilderback got a recording of the bird calling as it flew over. That recording is attached here.
