Media notes
A lingering Sandhill Crane photographed by Curtis A. Marantz on 19 April 2023 in fields west of the Palo Verde Ecological Reserve, Riverside County, California.
Observation details
We saw along the canal and later foraging in the alfalfa fields to the west a single crane. This was a large wading bird with a relatively short bill, a rounded crown on a small head, a long neck that was quite slim, a plump body with curved tertials, and long legs. The overall plumage was medium-gray, but I could see a red crown and some whitish in the face, and rather dusky wings.
