Sabine's Gull, It eventually took off, seemed a bit ill, flew to Brevard County
Observation details
Viewed with 6 other birders. continuing bird spotted by Avery Chan 5 days prior and id by Michael Brothers, Park Ranger Ed Perry spotted the bird on 27th and called a small group of us over. The SAGU was nestled down in wrack on the beach by itself. I took photos of the bird. Small elegant tern like bird, small short black beak, soft mantle around the shoulder area of grayish color and taupe color more on sides of bird in sitting position and a edge of white on the wing. Soft patterns around the face not the strong eye ring of some laughing gulls. Sibley Guide to Birds p 228 "striking wing pattern and graceful...size like a Bonaparte's gull. Crossley's Guide to Eastern Birds p 134 "a beautiful gull with tern like qualities" worn tail feather's in flight, forked tail in flight.
