Observation details
Compact duck with black head and bill, prominent white streak from just behind the eye to nape where the white seems to angle downwards (but not downwards as much as a Garganey (I like to dream, OK?). White flanks, mottled white and black back--mostly dark. Distinct boundary between black neck and white flanks. Duck was hanging out with some Gadwall and was exhibiting dabbling feeding behavior. At no point did it dive. Reminiscent of a female Bufflehead but the white facial streak is significantly larger than I'd expect, plus the black bill, white sides, and dabbling don't seem right. Best guess: male BUFF / HOME hybrid
