Observation details
Continuing, a darker-backed version of our common Herring Gull (American) subspecies, eye not as pale and showing dark reddish orbital ring, red on culmen, wing pattern showing short white tongue tips, streaking on back of neck confined to lower portion of neck, it stood up very briefly before plopping back down and I noted the pinkish legs. The last photo I included shows a comparison with nearby Western Gull, to my eye in the lighting situation at that time, its back color seemed almost as dark as the Western!
