Observation details
Continuing Wild Bird Fund rehabbed and released bird. At times very close to shore at northern half of west side of Reservoir; dove thrice consecutively in vicinity of three northern shovelers, each time surfacing right under them, causing them to take short flight away. Not sure if this was intimidation or playfulness. Each time the grebe dived, the shovelers anticipated the attack and swam quickly away from the fabled evil grebe of Brooklyn sidewalks and WBF bathtubs, but to no avail, as one unlucky shoveler would be poked in the butt on each occasion. Basic plumage; diving actively in addition to the shoveler attacks, hanging with mallards, and poking bushes at the water's edge
