Observation details
Black and white booby that spent several minutes circling and plunge diving around the boat before flying off to the north. Identified by its orange-yellow bill with golden yellow tip, slender bill with slightly concave culmen, extensively white central rectrices, and dusky feathering on the head. Identification as Nazca supported by Todd McGrath, Dave Pereksta, and Peter Pyle, but Jon Dunn disagrees and prefers to consider it Masked/Nazca. See https://www.birdpop.org/docs/pubs/Pyle_2020_Molt_Age_and_ID_of_MABO_and_NABO.pdf for identification criteria. Many photos. Spotted by Steve Turley.
