Observation details
Located during Wilmington CBC. Located here (34.0423941, -77.8942580). Sitting with around 20 mourning dove on wire, going through motions with confirming what, from a distance and unaided, I assumed was a Rock Pigeon, yet closer observation my first consideration was white-crowned pigeon with whitish crown and even colored plumage with iridescent ruffles in nape immediately apparent. Pale grayish-white crown, potentially suggesting female. Cap was starkly contrasting, which is shown in photos, despite poor backlighting. Plumage was even gray with lighter breast/belly than the back and wings, feet a vibrant pink, and bill was bicolored with a lighter tip. Iridescence was visible for the side on approach, but ruffled appearance was easily seen. Flock of ~20 MODO flushed while trying for photos and messing with settings to try to get better contrast (last used camera for dark sulky YBCH). with bird to NNW to north of Publix, watched it dropping as it passed over Joseph Ryder park tall pines to north. Immediately sent out photos for second opinion and tried to get word out; however, bird was not relocated after initial sighting.
