Observation details
**very rare (1st NYS record); feeding, intermittently calling, and tucked in. Eyes isolated in white on the face. Long, bright, yellow-orange bill with thin dark culmen. Narrow black strip down the back of the neck. Two-toned, rather contrasty body panel with pale flanks. Calls were scratchy slurs of two notes, different from the clear-toned call of Clark's Grebe but not separated like many distinctly two-noted calls of Western Grebe.
