Observation details
Spotted at 8:23am, 6 minutes into the checklist by JD. (approx 39°12'.543N, 072°00'.672W) According to timestamps the bird was in view for just over 3 minutes. Seen by all on board. First NYS record pending acceptance by NYSARC. Noticeably smaller and more compact then the numerous Black-capped Petrels seen throughout the morning. Dark cowl evident at all angles, thin, white rump patch and dark tail and bright white underwings ruling out Fea's/Zino's Petrels. Sighting right on the heels of NJ's first state record last month and adding to well documented records outside of NC including VA, MA and Nova Scotia.
