Baird's Sparrow, Stateline Road, Cochise County, AZ, 17 October 2017
Observation details
Photo. Elusive sparrow mostly staying in thick grass until it perched in a mesquite for a couple of minutes. Whitish underparts, sparse dark streaking on breast and flanks, two dark spots near the auriculars, no obvious supercilium, medial crown strip, dark lateral throat strip. First spotted by Richard Webster. Thank you to both Richard and Rose Ann Rowlett for getting us on the bird and explaining the key characteristics for ID. A LIFER for 3 of us (Anne, Shelli, and me).
