NOTES: (Number of Animals: Nestling(s)? Breed. Status: Breeding. Gen. Climate: Humid. Gen. Hab.: Taiga? Weather: Trace breeze.) Nest about 15 m up in a live Red Fir tree in an area with extensive Lodgepole Pine and a few Red Fir. Larger trees have been cut with many logs and branches on the ground. BNA: Adult Call Note is heard (also termed Kyik, chet, chuck, or clicking), as well as "Chirp" calls from nestlings. CZ 25/02/2004. [This represents primarily the Chirp Calls of nestlings, but the Chirps become Loud Chirp Calls when the adult arrives to feed them at 0:14, and there are seven examples of the "kyip" Call Note given as the adult bird flew off (some of the latter quite distant). Quality changed from 3 to 2-3 - CAM - 26 April 2005]. Other Behaviors: Bill Drumming, Establish Parent Young Contact, Beg, Care For Young. Habitat: Forest, Coniferous Forest.
