Observation details
Thanks to Brian Rapoza for reporting this bird, only the second sighting for the park since 1996. The bird did not vocalize and I didn't realize it was in the area until 2 GCFL's started chasing it at every opportunity. Lots of bill snapping and popping by all 3 birds. It called once with distinct "whip" but spent most of the time interacting with GCFL's. The size difference was apparent during 1 altercation and the less extensive rufous in the tail can be seen in the photos. Also, the less intense yellow starting on the lower breast is different from GCFL, as well as a more contrasty face. I assume this is the Eastern race with a slightly shorter bill than the Western race.
