Observation details
Photos of birds migrating overhead. When we arrived, we immediately heard cranes. Throughout the time we were there, cranes were going over from east to west in groups ranging from as small as 3 to as large as 180, most groups were in the 20 to 50 range. Large numbers (2000+) were reported from the state park to the east earlier in the day. My guess is most of these birds were different, based on the timing. The birds we saw were large medium gray birds with long straight necks, short tails and legs extending past the tail, on some we could see the bare red skin on the head. Throughout we heard the loud bugling calls.
