Observation details
This larger dark mantled basic plumaged adult gull had a significant white "drooping skirt" and pink legs plus a longer pale yellow bill with a reddish marks near the gonys. The larger blocky head featured large eyes with yellow irises each surrounded by a darker smudge. The pale back of the head and neck had some dark streaking. The primaries when extended revealed the diagnostic 'string of pearls.' The bird was studied extensively this evening at Wascana Lake and photographed by several over its longer stay as it moved from basic to alternate plumage. Kim Mann took these images.
