size comparison with wood sandpiper
Observation details
bird was about 40 metres away. did not call and did not fly whilst I was watching it. ID based mainly on size, breast pattern and behaviour - moved around quietly and slowly, pecking occasionally - not the very active feeding and probing I would expect from a red-necked stint. This is not a species I am familiar with in the field so happy to be corrected.
