Observation details
Juvenile at (46.8407682, -124.8809554), over the outer shelf south of Grays Canyon at approximately 10:00am. Prolonged views at it floated near the boat; eventually diving underwater. A solitary alcid roughly Rhinoceros Auklet size with upperparts uniformly black. Underparts unmarked white. Black neck band. Face mostly grayish around lores and eyes, then white in a large cheek patch. Beak dark, fairly deep, and stout. First Westport Seabirds sighting since 2011, and very few coastal sightings for WA total. Many photos taken.
