Observation details
Two birds first observed at 0740. Although two birds could be seen chasing each other on occasion, only one bird would visit the flowering tree with small pink flowers at a time. The female was observed a few times in the beginning and then only the immature male was seen for the rest of the duration. Visits to the tree would occur every 10-30 min and usually lasted anywhere from 10 seconds to a few minutes. The helmetcrest would land on the tree to drink nectar and the move and land again. Usually working its way around the tree before either disappearing over the hillside or deep into thick vegetation near the stream. At times they would also "charge us" by hovering a foot in front of our faces before moving on.
