Observation details
Passing close to boat at chum stop: 47deg 03'N; -124deg 57'W. From WSS Notes: At approximately 1100, heard someone mention interesting bird approaching (Matt Dufort and Scott Mills). Bird approached at approximately 10:00 position coming straight in to boat. Came in close then passed along port side at eye level to stern, departing directly away from back of boat low to water. Very white below and dark above with distinctly black cowl/hood, grayer to rear/hind-neck; obvious white forehead and rather short, thick black bill. Dark grayish above with slightly paler mid-back and somewhat darker wings, rump, and tail. Clean white body below, underwings clean white at base, with bold black ulnar bar and blackish primaries; no dark seen at base/ auxiliaries or flank. Body rather bulky up front tapering to long tailed aspect; wings long and rather broad. Many good photos, photos TBA
