Observation details
Great looks at an immature and male. Calling flight calls clearly lower than RECR Type 2. Recorded, pics, vid. Look like normal crossbills male all red with forked tail no wing bars. Crossed bill. Imm all pale gray brown with some streaking and slightly paler rump. Did a little research with the help of Matt Young's article https://ebird.org/news/crossbills-of-north-america-species-and-red-crossbill-call-types/ and you can see the lower frequency of these birds (the main component is in the 3-3.5 kHz range as opposed to Type 2 RECR which is normally higher - highest part at 4.5 kHz). Also can see a little of the upward component of the first part which is absent in Type 2.
