Media notes
Four cuts of a Gray Catbird singing. Apparent mimicry of Monk Parakeet (e.g., at 1:42) and Red-winged Blackbird calls (e.g., at 1:45). At 2:02 (during the second cut), the bird switches to a whisper song. During this period, mimicry of American Robin calls (at 2:15) and Red-winged Blackbird calls (at 2:23) can be heard. The bird returns to typical song in the remaining cuts. (For another recording containing this species' whisper song made at this same park, see ML340627781). Normalized to -3 dB except for voice announcement at -10 dB. 24-bit/48 kHz WAV file edited with Ocenaudio. Unfiltered.
Observation details
Had three of them singing within 25-30 feet of each other. Audio recording of one. Shortly afterward, had three catbirds, a cardinal, two Red-eyed Vireos, and a White-eyed Vireo all scolding something in a thicket.
