Observation details
Awesome!!! Adult Horned Puffin seen to the south of West Point at 8:14 as it was sitting on the water in a group of about 7 RHAU - it must have just flown in (I’d just recently scanned that area). The puffin immediately stood out due to its bright white face and its giant bill - unmistakably a HOPU. I called Eric Hope who ran down from the uplands and arrived to see it only 2-3 minutes before fog blanketed the alcid group and soon the entire Sound and Discovery Park. I birded the uplands for a while and returned to scan once the fog had lifted, but I did not see the puffin again. A great bird to have seen today - exactly one month after my last Horned Puffin sighting here! Photos are screengrabs from digiscope videos.
