Observation details
Small flock passing over the quarry!! Awesome!! Bad photos. Six dark-mantled gulls with black heads and prominent eye arcs. In the light, I could even see pink on the chest of some of the birds. Beaks too short and rounded for terns, and the birds were larger than would be expected for any tern except Caspian, which lacks the eye-arcs. The ends of the wings were black as well, rather than having a limited trailing edge that might suggest Bonaparte's Gulls.
