Observation details
Originally IDed as CONI, but the picture was flagged by another eBirder for the length of the primaries as looking better for LENI. I admit I was totally unaware of the following field marks for distinguishing, but after speaking with county reviewer extensively over the course of a weekish, we decided the bird is a female LENI. The buffy marks on the primaries continue further down than would be expected for Common, and the final mark appears to be the wingbar (buffy, not white-ish, a female trait) which would fit the placement for a Lesser. The row of round buffy marks on the scapulars is also indicative of female Lesser. These pictures have been sent around to other reviewers, the Advanced Bird ID FB group, and another expert with a unanimous consensus that the bird is actually a Lesser Nighthawk, the first and only record of this bird outside of Washington County in Utah.
