Observation details
Presumed "Northern" RTHA (abieticola); stunning adult; prominent dark belly band; dark head and throat, the latter almost completely so, with markings extending into belly band; bold patagial marks; dark upperparts; deep red uppertail with partial barring; photos. Dorsal notes were taken strictly off photos as I only really saw the underside well before I started shooting and only saw the upperside briefly through camera. Today's bird was a brief encounter as it made a quick but stunning and close pass in great light then circled once before being carried east by strong winds. I've resisted seperating these on eBird till now but as long as reports are well described (or better yet photographed) then ebirding these should only help our understanding.
