Observation details
*rare | relocated at this location after his/her brief Farmingdale stopover on 26-27 Dec 2016. Identified as the same bird by the injury to its left eye. Not visible at our 7AM arrival but after looping around the area we eventually spotted the bird in a tall deciduous tree between "Dragon Sea" and the Salvation Army. This falls almost directly on the Somerset/Penobscot line but Google Earth appears to show this tree on the Penobscot side. Perched during our visit. First sitting low, in full 'roost' posture but standing for a few minutes to stretch and preen. Remained on this perch throughout our visit. Obvious large black vulture. Scruffy black feathered neck. Facial skin was dark black. Fairly long billed with pale nail at tip. Short, squared off tail. Dark legs.
