NOTES: (Species: Vermivora chrysoptera x pinus or V. lawrencei, Lawrence's Warbler; Breeding Status: territorial; General Climate: humid; Copy Recorder: Studer from Nakamichi; Filtering: no) In a "colony" of Blue-winged Warblers and apparently territorial, although not located here by Doug Stotz 1-2 weeks later. Recordings of Blue-wingeds at this location are in LNS 44491-44493. "Lawrence's" is rare in Chicago area, but this is the 3rd consecutive year one has been at this location [see American Birds 41: 440 for photo]. A "classic" "Lawrence's" with olive back, black mask and throat, and yellow breast and belly, but the wing-bars were yellowish. The chin of this bird was also yellow. Some authors believe that a yellow [or, in Golden-winged, white] chin indicates a bird in the first alternate plumage. If this was indeed the same individual three years in a row, however, then chin color may not be strictly age-related.The hybrid was named as V. lawrencii on spp reel[Three "Type I" songs, all of which are typical of Vermivora pinus song ("beeee buzzzz"). Quality added (2-3) - CAM - 26 January 2005]. Other Behaviors: Advertise. Habitat: Forest, Deciduous Forest, Edge.
