Observation details
Pics. Sanderling sized bird in black and white, no beige or dun at all. First thought was wilsons plover before double take. Clean white face, black eyespot, black streak down neck and nape. Posture more upright than sanderling, longer neck than plovers. Black bill longer and thinner than Sanderling, straighter than Dunlin. Black legs. By itself in dunes despite large flocks of shorebirds near surf. Seen around 9:30am several hundred yards north of Island Grill entrance to beach. Seemed healthy: able to fly, walk, call, and do some exploratory probing of the sand.
