Hint of red at tip of bill
Observation details
Found by Raphael previous day, first spotted today by Alex M and then refound on beach by Liam H. Clearly larger than Bonaparte's Gulls, nearly the same size as Short-billed Gull. Underside of primaries blackish, visible in flight. Gray of mantle slightly lighter than Bonaparte's. Bill and legs usually looked black but with better views and light, a hint of red was visible. (I included one photo with exaggerated saturation to bring out red.) Bill longer and thicker than on Bonaparte's. Outline of hood that is molting in ends higher on nape than in Bonaparte's.
