Observation details
Captured during research activities. Note head coloration and pattern, including pale auriculars atypical of intermediate juvenile RTHA, subtle carpal patch, unpatterned greater upper wing coverts (expected to be starkly patterned in RTHA, especially harlani), fairly solid and noticeable bellyband that sits lower than expected on RTHA, long wings and tail, relatively small feet for RTHA, and tarsi feathering more extensive than RTHA. Otherwise, the bird looks mostly like a young intermediate harlani in plumage, especially the tail pattern that is much more heavily marked than a young RLHA.
