Observation details
This was an amazing experience. From the parking lot of the lodge, I was drawn to the attention of a couple of birders looking at a raptor perched in a large dead snag (which is now gone). The hawk was vocalizing - and I photographed it. At first I thought it was going to be an odd Bicolored Hawk, but it did not fit - plus the vocalizations were not correct for Bicolored - and it looked to white underneath, and lacked the rufous leggings. I photographed the bird - and believe it fits only Gray-bellied Hawk - as crazy as that sounds. The calls were a series of "sweee-eee" note - 2 or three in a series. Unlike the cackling calls of Bicolored.
