San Miguel Lagoon
Observation details
One contrastingly-marked individual at the east end of Kee Slough where Jon Feenstra found one the previous day. This individual had an extensive white face including the lores and under the eye, with white contrasting with the well-defined dark cap, well-defined dark thin forehead stripe, and well-defined dark earmuffs. (See first two photos) An hour later we found a LTDU at the east end of San Miguel Lagoon: it had less contrast overall, less white in the face, including dusky lores and dusky underneath the eye. (See last 3 photos) Unfortunately other birders told us that the Kee individual had left by the time we had found the San Miguel Lagoon individual. But multiple photos of both birds consistently show the same differences so we believe there were two birds present.
