Observation details

Mike first spotted this bird way out on the water, we watched it fly for positive ID, then spent an hour trying for photos - it finally came into the delta area and perched with tern and gulls. Adult bird in winter plumage - a bit larger than a Ring-billed Gull. Long bill with black band and red tip. Legs yellow, dark mantle, very black tail. Accepted by Washington Bird Records
