Observation details
Juvenile, perched in snag near edge of Long Meadow Lake, from overlook near SW end of Hogback Ridge pond. Watched and photographed for a total of about 35 min. Stout black bill, iris pale orange, back grayish brown with small creamy spots at tips of coverts, legs long, neck long when stretched, feet fully exposed behind tail when it flew (to NE). Gave a distinctly different profile from BCNH when erect--with longer legs and longer, more slender neck. Photo posted on MOU website (Recently Seen).
