Observation details
Very rare but an annual winter visitor. Most certainly the bird I previously reported on the CR-105 sod fields. Seen at the south extension of Merritts Pond. The bird was tucked away in the northwest corner and barely visible but I luckily found occasional glimpses through the phrag/woods edge. Distinctive small, stubby-billed Branta with white face, black hood and neck sock extending to breast and cleanly contrasting with pale underparts. Bluish/gray upperparts with dark barring. Seen and heard calling several times.
