Observation details
*** Very rare but possibly overlooked winter resident. After hearing a White-eyed Vireo song during my last visit, I did some research and concluded that there were no other options for identification. I returned today and pished from the garden edge that I heard the bird, and had no result. However, an Eastern Screech-Owl imitation greatly stirred a hidden pair of Ovenbirds, which alarm-called back and forth for a perhaps a minute before the vireo approached the garden from the scrub (a Prairie Warbler, a mockingbird, and possibly the two nearby Palm-Tanagers also took interest in the call). I photographed the vireo, which I recognized to species level in the field (and later checked all similar species in the Caribbean just in case), then confirmed age with the photographs.
