Observation details
Found earlier today by John Thomton. Observed for about 30 minutes. Overall smaller and more compact appearance than would be expected for a Chimney Swift, with shorter appearing body and wings. More erratic flight than I would expect for Chimney Swift. Relatively pale underparts that seem more extensive than would be expected for Chimney Swift. Rump paler than back. No vocalizations noted, although it would be very difficult to hear over the noise of the fountain and Boat-tailed Grackles. Sam obtained good photos from many different angles. I obtained bad photos from many different angles. Several people who saw this bird the following day commented that it was notably smaller than the Tree Swallows it was feeding with. Chimney Swift should appear the same size as TRSW. No known CHSW reports in Florida for this time of year.
