taking off from bare branch at top of tree picnic site 2
Observation details
male. flew into top of tree at picnic site 2. perched vertically on bare branch for about a minute before flying off. did not manage to get with sun behind me quickly enough to be able to see any contrast on the head. head, bill and eye appeared black. underside all chestnut from upper breast to vent. lesser and median underwing coverts chestnut. photo probably inconclusive to distinguish from breeding philippensis blue rock thrush but habitat and activity make chestnut-bellied more likely
