Observation details
Vocalizing right as I stepped out of the car, really caught me off guard since I was not expecting this species at this date and location. Typically, winterers are confined more to southern shore of the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia Beach and Norfolk, though I guess they wander along the Elizabeth, James and Nansemond Rivers as well. Didn't put eyes on the bird and it stopped vocalizing. Fortunately, at the end of the outing, it was vocalizing again right as I got to my car, and readily visible this time. Really neat.
