Observation details
standing among a flock of Common Terns - North Beach area; fairly big storm offshore; Rare onshore in NJ, presumably because those migrating to nesting Islands in GOMaine do so well offshore, where they likely are feeding on Pelagic-Juvenile Urophycis tenuis. Few digiscoped photos; Note especially the very short legs, but also note the exceedingly THIN legs in the "ankle" area. Compare to Common Terns. Also check the fairly uniform color, and small size, of bill. I don't know if the whiteness of cheek immediately below eye is a good char or not, but the lower face does appear slightly darker gray than this white area. Submitted to NJRBC and accepted.
