Observation details
Continuing 1st cycle. Smaller than all of the other gulls present. All-dark thin and rather long bill, dusky face pattern with slight white eye arcs. In flight had darkish gray back with some brown mottling, contrasting with all black outerwing. Thin white trailing edge to black secondaries. Mostly dark underwings in flight, and bright white rump contrasting with wide black terminal tail band. Flew in about 11:10 a.m. and landed in the water, flew around a few times before landing again, usually at far end of the flock. Flew off to the east at 1128am. Photos.
