Observation details
***VERY RARE, continuing male found my Bruce Maxwell on 2 June. Observed hunting at far edge of field just south of abandoned house, where it typically stayed close to the ground (on fence posts and low bushes) but would occasionally perch high in surrounding trees. Beautiful, unmistakable bird, with pale silvery-gray back, head, and breast, very long tail, peach-colored flanks, and bright red underwing coverts and shoulders (visible in flight). I am unsure about variation in tail length in this species - this individual did not appear as mega-long-tailed as several birds that I saw in Texas in April. Wing coverts brown with indistinct paler edging, while tertials were darker blackish with broad white edges. p10 distinctly notched. Fairly vocal, giving frequent "pip"-type calls and occasionally giving a full song.
