Observation details
Possibility this is actually a Western Wood-Pewee. Heard calling 2x and call matched Sibleys call for western. Lots of photos taken. We tried recording the sound but were unsuccessful except for a very short clip. The Wood-Pewee was observed for 26 min by 5 of us. It made several sallies to catch insects landing near the same location each time. It was heard calling two times uttering a single short call unlike any Eastern Wood-Pewee calls we had heard. After the first call, Ken checked the Sibleys Western Wood-Pewee calls and it was a really good match. Later checking xeno-canto I found an EAWP recording taken Dec 25, 1996 in Venezula that reminds me of what we heard (XC232665) but not as close as the Sibleys western calls. Unless the photos show some distinctive western feature, I will list as an EAWP, the more expected species.
