Media notes
Female. Remarks: Not a good shot, but this species is rarely photographed in India, hence sharing it. We were on our routine morning safari in Bandhavgarh, when we encountered this female Yellow-legged Buttonquail at the edge of the road. There was something peculiar about its behaviour. It did not move from its place (and was perfectly camouflaged) even when our jeep passed closely, followed by two more jeeps, yet it stood its ground for a couple of minutes and started to bob to & fro as if trying to mimic a wind blowing grass tuft. However, it eventually had to retreat in the grass due to the over-enthusiastic photographers wanting to take closeups. This is my 2nd sighting of this species in Bandhavgarh in as many years. - AS. Equipment: Canon 40D with Canon 100-400 mm IS lens. Date added to OBI: May 18, 2011.
