Observation details
Stunning bird found by Nick Belardes on 5 Oct. 2021 (Thanks for the stellar bird Nick) This was an overall very distinctive bird with a black throat and mask on a mostly white background. The white coloration around the head faded to a light gray breast and flanks. The back was overall slightly darker, more towards a medium gray. The feature that the bird's namesake is derived from was the most obvious feature on the wings; a bright yellow/golden patch on the wing. When the bird was foraging it seemed to pick a mix of high and low areas, but would almost exclusively look for dead leaves to gleam spiders and other insects. We observed the bird eating spiders, caterpillars, and even an earwig.
