Observation details
Super find as well as photgraphed by Chis Bohinski! Chris first spotted the Magnificant Frigatebird flying over the Susquehanna River at the 8th Bridge near Pittston around 6pm. Chris notified me shortly thereafter and fortunately, my wife Wendy and I were nearby. Bird headed up river and spotted again near West Pittston by Chris. Wendy and I chased the bird up river and spotted it soaring above in a mountain valley while being pursued by American crows around 6:15 pm. Location was approximately one-half mile south of the Harding Boat Launch along Rt 92. Unmistakable silhouette and profile of a large dark bodied seabird with long and distinctly angled and pointed wings. Long forked tail obvious as well. We drove north to the Falls Bridge in Wyoming County hoping to intersect it but could not relocate. The bird still might have remained in the river vicinity but the topography limited viewing opportunities. Note: Practically no cell phone service for miles along the Susquehanna River in Exeter Township. Photos taken by Chis Bohinski.
