Media notes
Alarm call given while diving toward me. Time of recording 17:52.
Observation details
Nest #4 observed 16:50-17:05. Adults were not present. At least 1 nestling visible using the endoscope. Nest #1 observed 17:10-17:30. Male perched on his sentry perch when I arrived, vocalizing. (Recorded.) As I scoped the nest 9 martins circled around me at varying altitudes, calling. Nest #3 observed 17:35-17:55. 2+ eggs visible; they must be ready to hatch any day. Male and female perched on top of the nest saguaro at one point while I was scoping the nest, just a couple feet from the nest cavity (and scope). The female gave a more complex song-like vocalization and mobbed me more aggressively than the male, even diving on me once. (Recorded.) Briefly a second male flew in and landed next to the pair on the saguaro, and I did not detect any noticeable aggression or agitation from any of the three birds.
