Observation details
*First county record. Found by Chace Scholten—terrific find! See Chace’s photos in his checklist. Located at approximately 42.98219, -85.53118 and will require a bit of marsh-whacking to flush. The bird was generally secretive, preferred willows, but did present nicely for about a minute after flushing from about 50 feet. This prolonged diagnostic view revealed a dense yellow supercilium patch, an olive-gray sub-ocular triangular patch, and a distinct dark crown stripe. Le Conte’s is ruled out by lack of a white central crown stripe, and Saltmarsh Sparrow is not supported due to darker chest as observed in flight. Chace Scholten obtained a photo during my observation. Way to go for a lifer!
